Our Story

“For locals.  By a local.”   That pretty much sums up what Malissa Puyol stands for.  As a staunch independent in the consolidating bottleshop market, Malissa is the proud owner of 161 Cellars.  With over 10 years experience in the liquor industry Malissa strongly believes in the basics: knowledge, service, selection, and smiles!

161 Cellars is the only independent specialist purveyor of fine wines, craft beers and spirits in the Central Park pocket of Malvern East.  Malissa and her team have a formula that works:  listen to customers, provide advice where requested, and make sure everyone leaves (and returns!) very satisfied.

When it comes to shopping for beverages to enjoy everyone has their own tastes, interests and curiosities.  Maybe you’re a tradie with a cold VB thirst or a hop cop beer guru, a quaffer or wine connoisseur, a G&T sipper or a cocktail maven.  Everyone’s status or interest is different and a good ear, local knowledge, and convenience is what really matters.

That’s where independents like Malissa have the edge over the Bland Murphys Choice in the market, and Malissa certainly provides better value for money.   Malissa's customers love to highlight their disenchantment with the nationally owned bottleshop enterprises.  “Ban the Dan” they say!  When it comes to sourcing nice beverages they want a providore not a pallet-or.

So next time you have a special request, a party event, or just need some advice simply stroll up to 161 Cellars and ask for Malissa.  She’s there to help and it’s guaranteed she will make you smile!
